Pequod Co. is pleased to participate in Unique Design X Savannah 2022 with Renata Petersen, invited by Morgan Morris and Jérôme Sans.
Unique Design X Group presents A NEW SPACE AGE as a curated collectible design fair for its new era, in the Kehoe Iron Works building at Trustees’ Gardens.
Each artist/designer creates a fully immersive portal, made through a cooperative effort between the artist, their gallery and the Unique Design X platform; dynamically constructing a vision of strikingly original and contemporary living spaces and aesthetics.
The visit promises to transport observers into a multi-sensorial journey. Presenting a new way of showcasing contemporary collectible design that goes beyond the sterile ‘white-cube’ spaces.
Unique Design X Group is interested in showcasing a pluralistic view on design, its upcoming Unique Design X Savannah edition will feature a focus on African and Latin-American design.
The pieces being presented at Unique Design X Savannah are ceramic glazed vases made in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In these vases, Renata uses texts, images and words from trash pop culture that work as images themselves. Renata has an interest in taking low culture to high culture in her work. Mass produced images such as those appearing in comics, manga, hentai, Disney movies, punk or death metal bands become part of her personal biography and therefore, her interests in art. She describes her practice as a mix of contemporary anthropology and waste scavenger, or a hoarder of images from popular culture. As the Greeks and the Chinese did, she uses vases to write down her personal history, which has been mediated by mass-produced culture, as an attempt to make last what seems ephemeral, in an elegant and timeless manner.
