Pequod Co. is pleased to announce a solo booth by Yolanda Ceballos (Monterrey 1985, lives and works in Glasgow) for the Opening by Allianz sector of ARCOmadrid, the gallery’s first year at this section. Curated by Julia Morandeira and Yina Jiménez Suriel.
The project is titled out of time and into space and consists of an installation that involves a site specific, immersive drawing, a sculpture, and six sets of three drawings each. They discuss time, space, and perception.
The central sculpture of the installation is titled: Time Machine 18/08/2022-__/__/____. It locates any given date and space and recreates the atmospheric conditions of that day through a programmed system of arduinos that activate and temporize machines of fog and rain.
The device takes reference from the Nautical Hemisphere designed by Charles Whitwell in 1597, which is located at the Museo Galileo in Florence. This artifact was used to determine sea navigation routes by computing the relationship between the position of the ship and the position of the stars.
Time Machine is meant to navigate memory by the recreation of climate. It displaces a day from the past, and maintains it throughout the future eternally in the present.
What day would you like to repeat over, and over again?
