Tenemos el honor de anunciar la incorporación de la obra de Renata Petersen a la colección permanente de The Hammer Museum en Los Ángeles. Esta adquisición histórica incluye los dibujos de "The Secret Gospel Church of Phallic Worship", pieza central de su aclamada exposición individual en la Vault Gallery de dicha institución, curada por Aram Moshayedi.

La muestra, consistió en una espectacular intervención arquitectónica inmersiva. Inspirada en la estructura de la Capilla Scrovegni de Giotto, la artista transformó la galería revistiéndola con azulejos de cerámica que, en lugar de iconografía sagrada tradicional, ilustran las narrativas, mitologías y contradicciones de los cultos marginales y sectas del sur de California del siglo XX.

A través de un lenguaje visual influenciado por el cómic y la sátira, y ejecutado mediante la técnica tradicional de la cerámica de alta temperatura, Petersen explora temas de explotación, avaricia y la distorsión de la espiritualidad. We are honored to announce the addition of Renata Petersen’s work to the permanent collection of The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. This historic acquisition includes the drawings for “The Secret Gospel Church of Phallic Worship,” the centerpiece of her acclaimed solo exhibition at the museum’s Vault Gallery, curated by Aram Moshayedi.

The exhibition consisted of a spectacular, immersive architectural installation. Inspired by the structure of Giotto’s Scrovegni Chapel, the artist transformed the gallery by covering it with ceramic tiles that, instead of traditional sacred iconography, illustrate the narratives, mythologies, and contradictions of 20th-century Southern California’s fringe cults and sects.

Through a visual language influenced by comics and satire, and executed using the traditional technique of high-temperature ceramics, Petersen explores themes of exploitation, greed, and the distortion of spirituality. Its inclusion in the Hammer Museum’s collection is a recognition not only of her technical rigor but also of her keen ability to connect the history of these dogmas with the obsessions of contemporary global culture.
