La presencia internacional de Cristóbal Gracia continúa expandiéndose. Nos complace anunciar la adquisición de su obra “Perla barroca cultivada, La Absoluta” por parte del Museo de Arte de Seattle (SAM) en Estados Unidos.

Con esta incorporación, el trabajo de Gracia se suma a una prestigiosa colección permanente que alberga más de 25,000 obras de arte; un acervo global que abarca desde la antigüedad hasta el presente, e incluye desde pintura y porcelana hasta cestería y máscaras rituales. Al integrarse a este rico diálogo de culturas y perspectivas históricas, el trabajo de Gracia consolida su lugar en la escena artística internacional.

"La propuesta de Gracia plantea al arte contemporáneo preguntas sobre las condiciones de producción, distribucióny consumo de sus mercancías, a partir de repensar el lujo y sus asociaciones con el exceso, el desperdicio y el vacío. Así como ocurre con "La Absoluta", donde sus dimensiones, al exceder la escala humana, sugieren que se emancipa de la concha, ¿Qué implicacionestendría y qué posibilidades abre asumir el exceso y lo residual del consumo como nueva superficie, forma y materia del arte? ¿Qué seconsidera valioso y qué, en cambio, remanente? ¿Bajo qué condiciones se le otorga valor de lujo a ciertos objetos? En el contexto de la política cultural actual en México, donde el mercado del arte ha ganado un lugar preponderante en la construcción de valores, endetrimento de las instituciones públicas ¿Cómo pensar críticamente la construcción de valor en las disputas narrativas del arte contemporáneo?"

Cristóbal Gracia’s international presence continues to expand. We are pleased to announce the acquisition of his work “Cultured Baroque Pearl, La Absoluta” by the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) in the United States.

With this addition, Gracia’s work joins a prestigious permanent collection that houses more than 25,000 works of art a global collection spanning from antiquity to the present, and ranging from paintings and porcelain to basketry and ritual masks. By becoming part of this rich dialogue of cultures and historical perspectives, Gracia’s work solidifies its place on the international art scene.

"Gracia’s proposal allows contemporary art to raise questions about the conditions of production, distribution, andconsumption of its commodities, reflecting on luxury and its associations with excess, waste, and emptiness. Just as Assoluta, where its dimensions, by exceeding the human scale, suggests an emancipation from its shell and the acquisition of autonomy, one might ask: What implications and possibilities arise when excess and consumption’s residuals are assumed as new surface, form, and material in art? What is considered valuable, and what, in contrast, is deemed mere remnants? Under what conditions does an object acquire the status ofluxury? Beyond being assemblages of materials, are we also faced with amalgamations of different types of value use, exchange, and symbolic? In the current Mexican cultural policy landscape, where the art market has taken a dominant role in con-structing value at the expense of public institutions, how can we critically reflect on the formation of value and the narrative struggles of contemporary art in relation to luxury consumption, identity production, and residual culture?"
